Assosiasaun Ema Afeita Lepra Timor-Leste (AEAL-TL) is a newly establish association in Timor-Leste. AEAL-TL functions as a local and national association that offers various services for people affected by Hansen disease to reach the goal of zero leprosy and zero discrimination. This association is mainly founded by people who used to affect by Hansen disease. The motivation of the existence of AEAL TL is the life experience of the founders and the leprosy situation in Timor-Leste; many people who are currently affected by Hansen disease are dropping out from the MDT treatment, and many children are also affected by Hansen disease in this present in Timor-Leste.
The localisation of AEAL-TL is in Rua Bemmori, Bemori, Nain Feto, Dili, Timor-Leste.

Vision is that people affected by Hansen disease
live in prosperity and independent. People affected by Hansen disease is
integrated and participated effectively without any stigma or discrimination in
the society of Timor-Leste.

Mission is promoting equity and equality in terms
of the opportunities for people affected by Hansen disease to access any
aspects of life and maximise their participation across the society in
Timor-Leste.

Principles – AEAL-TL is a non-profit association
that founded based on the values such as inclusive, transparency, honesty and
accountable regarding service delivery to people affected by Hansen and people with disability affected by Hansen disease.
AEAL-TL
Objective:
1. AEAL-TL
aims to advocate to the public to raise awareness about the human rights of
people and rights of people affected by Hansen disease to be treated equally
without stigma or discrimination in the society across Timor-Leste.
2. AEAL-TL
aims to maximise the integration and participation of people affected by Hansen
disease across all aspect of life without stigma or discrimination in the
society of Timor-Leste.
3. AEAL-TL
aims to empower people affected by Hansen disease and their family economically
to have sustainable income to live independently.
4. AEAL-TL
aims to enhancing rehabilitation program throughout range of activities to
support the integration of people affected by Hansen disease in the communities
across Timor-Leste.
AEAL-TL
Programs:
To
respond to the global strategy of zero leprosy, zero discrimination and zero
disability, the AEAL-TL association has a Program designed based on the CBR
Matrix such as: Health, Livelihoods and Empowerment.
1. Health
– Promotion and Rehabilitation

Coordinating integrated
services about promotional tools with Ministry of Health and relevant
stakeholders regarding to Hansen disease or Leprosy issue in Timor-Leste.

Providing counselling
service for people affected by Hansen disease for stress management during the
period of undertaking MDT treatment.
·
Providing a basic
rehabilitation training for people affected by Hansen disease to enable them
with self-care skills.
·
Providing sensibilization
in regard to Leprosy issue to raise awareness regard to Leprosy awareness to
individuals affected by Hansen disease, their families and the community.
2. Livelihood
– Skill Development
·
Providing Livelihood
skill training like Microenterprise to people affected by Hansen disease to
help them establish small business.
·
Providing training about
business plan to people affected by Hansen disease to enable them identify
market opportunity in the society.
·
Providing basic training
like computer skills, financial management training to people affected by
Hansen disease to enable them became entrepreneurs in the future.
3. Empowerment
– Advocacy and Communication; Self-Help-Group
·
Advocating to the
Government of Timor Leste to include Leprosy issue in the National Disability Action
Plan.
·
Advocating to the Health
sector to integrate best practice service to the Leprosy issue.
·
Providing assistance to
people affected by Hansen disease establishing self-help group to maximize
their participation in the society and freely express their opinions.
